Sooo I have recently discovered this little trail hidden in Chino Hills called La Sierra Trail Loop and it was such a beautiful hike especially with the spring bloom and my dogs were so trilled to go!
But beware! This is definitely rattlesnake territory I saw an adult rattlesnake and a little deceased one. So you might want to keep your furbabys on a leash if they’re the explorative type!
Besides that, parking is street parking and it’s hidden in a little neighborhood, the hike definitely has a few steep hills so bring a good pair of shoes!
... Read moreHey fellow adventurers! Since sharing my recent find, the La Sierra Trail Loop in Chino Hills, I've had so many questions about what else to expect on this beautiful path. I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what makes this spot truly special, especially if you're looking for a refreshing escape near Los Angeles.
First off, let's talk about the trail itself. The OCR mentioned it's a 2.1-mile loop, and I can confirm it's a fantastic length for a quick but rewarding outing, taking about 1 hour to complete at a moderate pace. It's listed as moderately challenging, which I think is spot on. Don't let that intimidate you! While there are definitely some steep hills that will give your legs a good workout, the inclines are usually followed by flatter sections, allowing you to catch your breath and soak in the views. I found the varied terrain kept things interesting, never feeling monotonous. Those rolling hills covered in vibrant yellow wildflowers during spring are truly a sight to behold – it feels like stepping into a painting! Even outside of spring, the lush green landscape is incredibly calming.
One of the biggest draws for me, and many others, is that it's a super pet-friendly trail. My pups absolutely loved it! However, as I mentioned, it's crucial to be aware of the wildlife. That rattlesnake encounter was a stark reminder. So, if you're bringing your furry friends, please keep them on a leash, especially if they're as curious as mine. It's better to be safe than sorry, and it helps protect both your pets and the local ecosystem. Also, remember to bring plenty of water for both yourself and your dog, as there aren't any water sources on the trail.
For those planning to catch the sunset, you're in for a treat. The way the light bathes the hills as the sun dips below the horizon is just magical. The trail offers some incredible vantage points for panoramic views. Just be sure to start your hike with enough time to complete the loop before it gets too dark, or bring a headlamp for the way back. The trailhead can be a little tricky to find since it's nestled in a quiet neighborhood. I recommend using GPS to get to the general area and then keeping an eye out for available street parking. It usually isn't too hard to find a spot, but arriving a bit earlier, especially on weekends, is always a good idea.
Beyond the sunset, this trail is also fantastic for an early morning hike to beat the heat or a leisurely afternoon stroll. The combination of easy access from LA, the beautiful scenery, and the good workout makes it a top choice for a quick nature fix. It’s certainly become a favorite hike in LA County for me, offering a slice of tranquility away from the city hustle. So, lace up those good shoes, grab your water bottle, and maybe a friend or two (human or canine!) and go experience the beauty of La Sierra Trail Loop for yourself!
