BLACK HISTORY MONTH | REMEMBERING – CARTER G. WOODSON
Today we honor Carter G. Woodson — the scholar who ensured Black history would never again be treated as a footnote.
Known as the Father of Black History, Carter G. Woodson understood that erasure is a form of oppression. When schools ignored Black contributions, he built institutions. When textbooks excluded truth, he published it. He founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History and created Negro History Week—the foundation of today’s Black History Month.
Woodson taught us that controlling knowledge is controlling power.
And that education isn’t neutral—it either liberates or limits.
