Glossier Sunscreen Review

2024/5/15 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! You know how much I love finding the perfect sunscreen, and after seeing so many people rave about the Glossier Invisible Shield, I finally decided to give it a try. I've been on the hunt for a daily SPF that feels great, doesn't leave a ghostly cast, and ideally, plays nice with my makeup. So, is this *the one*? Here's my full breakdown after using it consistently. First off, let's talk about the texture. When you pump it out, it's this incredibly light, clear gel-like serum. The OCR mentioned it's a "silicone clear" formula, and that's spot on. It feels almost like a dry oil or a very lightweight primer, which immediately sets it apart from traditional creamy sunscreens. This "totally clear sunscreen" aspect is a huge win for anyone with a deeper skin tone or who just hates the dreaded white cast. I can confirm, absolutely "no white cast" here – it truly disappears into the skin instantly, leaving no residue behind. It "spreads really nicely" and "instantly sinks into the skin," making the application process incredibly smooth and quick. It feels like nothing, which is exactly what I want in a daily SPF. The finish is another highlight. The OCR noted a "soft matte finish," and I'd agree. It's not a super-drying matte, but rather a natural, velvety look that blurs pores slightly. It doesn't leave my skin greasy or tacky, which is crucial, especially on warmer days or if you have oily skin. For someone like me who prefers a less dewy look, this is perfect. It's truly an "invisible shield" in terms of how it feels and looks on the skin. Now, for the big question: how does it perform as a "makeup primer"? This was a major selling point for me. I've found that it genuinely "works well as a makeup primer." My foundation glides on beautifully over it, and I haven't experienced any pilling or patchiness. In fact, I feel like it creates a smooth canvas for makeup, helping it adhere better and potentially last longer. It means one less step in my morning routine, which is always a bonus! In terms of sun protection, this is described as a "broad-spectrum chemical sunscreen." While there was some confusion about the exact SPF number (the OCR mentioned both 30 and 50, but the product is typically SPF 35), being broad-spectrum means it protects against both UVA and UVB rays, which is the most important thing for daily sun care. It feels good knowing I'm getting comprehensive protection without the heavy feel. I also heard it was "reformulated" at some point, and whatever they did, the current version is a dream to use. Finally, let's talk about the price. At "$32 for 50 MLS," it's definitely on the higher end for a daily sunscreen. While I love the user experience, I do find myself wishing it was a bit more affordable or came in a larger size. It's an investment, for sure. The OCR mentioned "you could get something cheaper at Trader Joe's," and while that's true for basic sunscreens, the unique clear, primer-like texture of Glossier Invisible Shield is hard to replicate. If you're willing to splurge for a truly elegant and invisible SPF that doubles as a primer, it could be worth it. However, if budget is your main concern, there are definitely more economical broad-spectrum chemical sunscreens out there that do the job, even if they don't have the same luxurious feel or primer benefits. Overall, the Glossier Invisible Shield is a fantastic everyday sunscreen for those who prioritize a lightweight, clear formula that acts as a great base for makeup. It’s perfect for anyone who hates the feeling or look of traditional sunscreens. While the price might be a deterrent for some, its unique benefits make it a strong contender in the high-end SPF market. I'm genuinely impressed with how seamlessly it fits into my routine!
