DO NOT DO THIS to Cold Sores
Living with cold sores can be challenging, especially when you've experienced them since childhood. From my personal experience, I've learned that trying to pop or pick at cold sores only prolongs healing and increases the chance of infection. Instead, gently cleansing the area and applying antiviral creams early can significantly reduce discomfort and healing time. It's also important to avoid sharing items like towels, lip balms, or utensils when you have an active cold sore to prevent spreading the virus. Stress and sun exposure often trigger outbreaks, so managing stress through relaxation techniques and using sunscreen on your lips can help reduce frequency. Over-the-counter remedies can help manage symptoms, but consulting a dermatologist ensures you get the right treatment plan, especially if outbreaks are frequent or severe. Staying hydrated and maintaining a healthy diet rich in vitamins can boost your immune system, aiding recovery. Remember, cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, which remains in your body even when sores aren’t visible. Being mindful of triggers and proper care routines can help you live comfortably despite recurring cold sores.

I learned in 6th grade that we all carry the herpes simplex 1 virus. It lays dormant.
