Designing a home with an Old Money aesthetic requires a thoughtful balance between classic elegance and modern functionality. In this project, the focus was on creating spacious yet cozy areas that accommodate the needs of a four-person household while maintaining a timeless, luxurious style. One important aspect of such a design is the spatial planning, which involves organizing rooms and furniture to maximize comfort and flow. For instance, open common spaces like living and dining rooms are arranged to foster interaction, while private spaces such as bedrooms are positioned for tranquility and privacy. Incorporating period-appropriate architectural elements such as crown molding, wainscoting, and vintage light fixtures enhances the Old Money feel. When renovating the floor plan, careful consideration was given to preserving historical features while updating the layout for contemporary living. This can mean reconfiguring smaller, compartmentalized rooms into larger, multifunctional spaces without losing the character of the original structure. Using a neutral color palette paired with rich textures like velvet and leather helps to evoke the warmth and sophistication associated with Old Money interiors. In terms of interior design, including tasteful artworks, antiques, and classic furniture pieces ensures the environment feels curated yet lived-in. Layering in subtle modern conveniences and smart home technology allows the household to enjoy both style and comfort. From my experience, achieving such a design requires patience and attention to detail, especially when blending renovation and preservation. Consulting with skilled spatial planners and interior designers familiar with traditional styles can greatly enhance the final result. Ultimately, the goal is to create a harmonious living space that feels both elegant and deeply personal for the family living there.
