Luke 15:6-7 “when he arrives he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying ‘rejoice with me because i have found my lost sheep.’ in the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to god than over 99 others who are righteous and haven’t stayed away!”
- god rejoices when we return to him. when we lean on him, and come back to him when we are lost
- we should welcome people in with open arms as we were welcomed when we came. broken and battered and lost, with no path. they deserve the same love we received because jesus loves all the same.
if a man has 100 sheep and 1 gets lost what will he do? won’t he leave the 99 others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost?
the story of the lost sheep: portraying the lesson and painting the perspective that, when one out of all the 100, stray onto the wrong path, jesus will follow you, and guide you back to the path. even if it means leaving the 99 with someone else to look after.
suppose a women had 10 silver coins and cannot find one of them. won’t she turn on the lamp and search the house carefully to find it? because it has value. it had value before it was lost. don’t forget where you were when god found you and helped you so don’t forget where other people are when he finds them
the story of the lost coin: what is lost is valuable, not because it is lost. it already had value before it was lost. the same with you and the same with me. you were valuable before you were lost and before you were found. the value doesn’t change because you are lost or because you aren’t on the right path, because you can always come back to the path.
we must have grace with those far from god and those struggling on their path because we received love and support when we were lost from our own paths.
