At the start of the year, I decided to try a simple yet effective decluttering technique: switching the hangers around in our closet to monitor which clothes get worn and which just hang there unused. This method helped me and my husband visually see what we actually wear regularly and what just takes up space. One surprising insight was how much less I wear even compared to my husband, despite having fewer clothing items. Wearing the same revolving shirts consistently made me realize the need to let go of items I rarely touch. The plan is to box up clothes still on the original hangers for a month and if no one asks for them, to donate or discard them. This approach removes the stress of making immediate decisions and gives you a more objective perspective on your wardrobe. From my experience, decluttering this way not only frees up physical space but also mental energy spent on outfit choices. It’s been an empowering process to face the excess and simplify what I keep. For anyone overwhelmed by wardrobe clutter, swapping hangers can be a gentle yet effective starting point on the journey to a more organized closet.
