Definitely will never be cooking bead that late again 🥴
Cooking late at night can be a real test of patience and skill, especially when exhaustion sets in. I learned this the hard way when I attempted to prepare meals late and realized it was not only exhausting but also affected the quality of what I was cooking. The result was less than ideal—harder food, unbalanced lunches, and definitely not what I would call healthy or satisfying for the kids. One thing that helped me get through was switching to simple lunch options like ham and cheese sandwiches, peanut butter jelly, bananas, and some easy snacks like Cheez-Its. These are quick to put together and, although not gourmet, they prevent mealtime meltdowns and save energy. Hydration became simpler too by refilling water bottles, which is a small but important task to keep the kids fueled for the day. Another experiment I've been trying is turning my usual coffee bar area into a 'dirty soda' station. Inspired by some friends, I decided to stock syrups and fizzy drinks to make creative sodas, which adds some fun variety without extra cooking stress. It’s a personal favorite, especially when I’m too tired for elaborate drinks but want a little treat. From this experience, I realized the importance of planning ahead and keeping things simple, especially during busy or tiring days. Having quick lunch ideas, snacks, and drink options ready can make life easier. Plus, it’s okay not to be perfect—sometimes better meals come from creativity and convenience than from late-night cooking attempts. These small changes helped me maintain some sanity while keeping my family fed and happy.
