I wanted to take a moment to properly re-introduce myself and share a little more about what’s behind the scenes here as I rebrand this page into our homestead page.
I’m Devin, and alongside my biggest supporter, Matthew, we’ve been building Silver Mare Acres for about a year and a half now. What started as a cookie fundraiser for horse shows has grown into so much more, and I wanted this page to reflect the whole farm, not just the kitchen.
Our farm is home to my horses Angel, Twister, and Rosie, Donkey(our newest addition), seven Australian Shepherds , six cats, and 50+ poultry that keep life full and busy every day.
While baked goods will always be a big part of what I love and share, I’m excited for what’s ahead. In 2026, I’m hoping to expand even more at Silver Mare Acres with fresh cut flowers, a farmstand, horse day camps, and more vendor opportunities for my baked goods.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement has helped make this next chapter possible, and I can’t wait to bring you along as Silver Mare Acres continues to grow.
... Read moreSo many of you have asked about the people behind Silver Mare Acres, and while I (Devin) love sharing our journey, it’s truly a team effort! My amazing partner, Matthew, is my biggest supporter and an integral part of everything we do here. When I say we’ve been building this for a year and a half, I mean we – from the ground up, literally. He's not just my rock; he's the co-visionary for this whole homestead dream.
Matthew isn't just a cheerleader; he's the muscle, the problem-solver, and often, the unsung hero of our homestead. He's the one you'll frequently find fixing fences, building new coops for our ever-growing flock of 50+ poultry, or, more recently, constructing a sturdy new shelter for Donkey, our newest and most charming addition. Seeing him patiently teach Donkey new tricks or just enjoying a quiet moment with our horses, Angel, Twister, and Rosie – often captured in those snowy pictures you’ve seen – truly warms my heart. He has a way with animals that's just incredible, whether it's calming a skittish horse or getting one of our seven Australian Shepherds to cooperate for a picture! From mucking out stalls to ensuring everyone has fresh water, Matthew is hands-on every single day.
Our dream for Silver Mare Acres started small, with my passion for baking, but it was Matthew who encouraged me to think bigger, to envision a full-fledged homestead. He's helped me lay the groundwork for expanding into fresh cut flowers, and he’s already brainstorming designs for the farmstand we hope to have by 2026. His practical skills perfectly complement my creative visions. While I'm busy experimenting with new cookie recipes or planning horse day camps, Matthew's often out in the barn, making sure everything is running smoothly, or helping tend to our six mischievous cats who seem to be everywhere, from curled up on blankets to exploring the snowy paths. He’s the one who often spots a stray kitten needing a home or has the patience to coax one of our more shy cats out of hiding.
It’s not always easy, homesteading comes with its fair share of challenges, especially with so many animals and ambitious future plans. But having Matthew by my side makes all the difference. We tackle everything together, from unexpected repairs to late-night animal checks, and even celebrating the small victories, like a successful batch of cookies or the first bloom in our future flower garden. His unwavering support and belief in our shared vision keep me going, especially when I'm dreaming up new vendor opportunities for our baked goods. He's truly invested in making Silver Mare Acres a thriving, vibrant place. This isn't just my journey; it's our journey, a life we’re building, hand-in-hand, and I can't wait to share more of Matthew's contributions and our adventures with you all as Silver Mare Acres continues to grow!
