Spring Break Day 2 - Joslyn Art Museum
Day 2 of our Spring Break Stay-cation went much better. (Day 1 had a blizzard & 10 hour blackout!)
We popped on by Joslyn to see the full display collection. We came when the museum reopened with the new addition this last Autumn, but had only toured the new wing & updated sculpture garden. And this time, they had some of our favorites from the collection out on display, including George Segal's Time Square at Night. Which we fell in love with back in 2001 on our first Spring Break spent in Omaha. It brought back some fun memories. I feel fortunate to have such a beautiful & well developed art museum in my town.
My recent Spring Break trip to the Joslyn Art Museum was such a highlight, and I'm already thinking about my next visit! After reflecting on how much we enjoyed rediscovering the collections, especially pieces like George Segal's 'Time Square at Night,' I realized how crucial a little planning can be to make the most of your day. It’s not just about what you see, but also when and how you visit that can really enhance the experience. One of the first things I always check, and something I learned the hard way can save a lot of hassle, is the museum's operating hours. You definitely don't want to show up only to find the doors closed or have to rush through because you arrived too late! While hours can change due to holidays, special events, or even seasonal adjustments, the most reliable place to find the current schedule is always the official Joslyn Art Museum website. A quick search for 'Joslyn Art Museum hours' will usually lead you straight to their 'Plan Your Visit' section. I've also found that a quick phone call to their main line right before you head out can provide peace of mind, especially if you're traveling a distance or visiting during a holiday period. Beyond just the opening and closing times, consider the best time of day to visit. From my experience, weekday mornings tend to be less crowded, offering a more serene environment to truly appreciate the art. Weekends, especially afternoons, can get quite busy, but they also sometimes feature special family-friendly programming that might be perfect if you're visiting with little ones. Speaking of which, always check their website for any special exhibitions or events happening. Sometimes, these require separate tickets or have different viewing hours, and you wouldn't want to miss out on something extraordinary! Admission is another practical point. While the Joslyn Art Museum often has free general admission, it's always wise to confirm this, as special exhibits might have a fee. Membership can also be a fantastic option if you plan to visit frequently, offering perks like free entry to special shows and discounts. Parking is usually available on-site, but knowing the layout beforehand or having a backup plan for busy days can save you time. And don't forget about amenities! There's usually a lovely museum shop to browse for souvenirs and a cafe if you need a break or a bite to eat. I remember grabbing a coffee during my last visit, which was a perfect little pick-me-up before diving into another gallery. Accessibility information is also key for many visitors. The Joslyn is generally very accommodating, but if you have specific needs, a quick check of their site or call can confirm ramp access, elevator availability, and other services. So, whether you're a local like me, fortunate to have this gem in your town, or planning a trip from afar, a little bit of homework on the Joslyn Art Museum's hours and visitor information will help ensure your visit is as enriching and enjoyable as mine was. Happy exploring!
