Sapphic dark fantasy

Hi everyone! My name is Devorah Barrocas, and I’m so excited to share that my debut novel is officially out.

This is a dark fantasy novel with a sapphic main character, a slow-burn romance, demons, angels, morally gray characters, court politics, survival trials, and a world that only gets darker and more intense as it continues into book 2.

Tropes / vibes include:

Sapphic slow burn

Masc with a dom femme

Humor to lighten the dark tone

Dark fantasy

Morally gray characters

Biblically accurate demons and angels

Deadly trials

Magically bonded beasts

Medieval setting

Fast paced, heavy plot

Court intrigue

Found family

High-stakes romance

A heroine who has no idea how powerful she really is

Thank you so much to anyone who checks it out, shares it, or adds it to their TBR. This book means so much to me, and I’m so excited that the hardcovers are finally here.

6/16 Edited to

... Read moreReading this novel felt like diving into a rich tapestry where the dark fantasy genre is elevated by a nuanced sapphic romance and complex characters that don’t fit the usual hero or villain mold. What really stood out for me was the authentic portrayal of biblically accurate demons and angels, which added depth and a haunting realism to the fantasy elements. The slow burn romance between a masc and dom femme brought emotional tension that perfectly balanced the high-stakes court intrigue and survival trials. The medieval setting felt immersive with all its grit and danger, especially when paired with magically bonded beasts that enriched the magical system. One personal highlight was how humor was woven thoughtfully throughout the narrative to lighten moments that could have otherwise been overwhelmingly dark. This blend made the story more relatable and kept me emotionally engaged. The heroine’s journey of self-discovery—particularly her realization of her unexpected power—felt authentic and inspiring, offering a fresh take on empowerment in fantasy. The novel's pacing kept me hooked, with fast-moving plot twists and a constantly intensifying world that promises even greater challenges in the sequel. The found family aspect added warmth and hope amidst the darkness, creating a well-rounded emotional experience. Overall, for readers seeking a gripping sapphic dark fantasy with richly detailed world-building, morally complex characters, and an emotionally charged romance, this book is a remarkable debut worth adding to your TBR list.
