... Read more“HAPPINESS DEPENDS UPON OURSELVES. ARISTOTLE.” This powerful statement from the ancient Greek philosopher, whose bust often adorns classical studies, has always captivated me. It's more than just a catchy phrase; it's a profound philosophy that has shaped my understanding of what it truly means to live a good life. For so long, I, like many others, found myself looking for happiness in external things – achievements, possessions, or the approval of others. But Aristotle's wisdom challenges that perspective head-on. He suggests that the true source of our well-being isn't out there, but within us. It’s about cultivating our character, making virtuous choices, and engaging with the world meaningfully. I’ve personally experienced this shift; when I stopped chasing external validation and started focusing on my own values and growth, a deeper, more resilient sense of contentment began to emerge. This brings us directly to Aristotle's concept of eudaimonia. It’s often mistakenly translated simply as "happiness," but it's so much more profound. Think of it as human flourishing, living a life of excellence, or reaching one's full potential. It's not about fleeting pleasures, but a sustained state of well-being achieved through a life of virtue and purpose. When I first delved into eudaimonia, I realized that Aristotle wasn't asking us to just feel good, but to be good and do good. It’s about actively shaping our character and living in accordance with reason. The question of the quote's authenticity and its relevance in our modern world often crosses my mind. Can a philosophy from ancient Greece truly guide us today? I firmly believe it can. In an age dominated by social media and external metrics of success, Aristotle's idea that happiness depends upon ourselves serves as a powerful anchor. It reminds us not to lose ourselves in the pursuit of what society dictates, but to look inward. For me, this means regularly checking in with my values, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in activities that genuinely align with my purpose, rather than just those that offer instant gratification. It's a continuous journey, not a destination. So, what's my conclusion on living by Aristotle's philosophy? It's incredibly practical. It encourages self-awareness, personal responsibility, and the development of virtues like courage, temperance, and justice. I've found that by focusing on these internal aspects, my overall well-being has significantly improved. It’s about building a strong inner foundation so that external circumstances don’t derail my sense of peace. While the idea of "philosophy AI" might one day explore these concepts digitally, the profound human experience of self-discovery and the cultivation of inner happiness remains uniquely ours. It's a journey of self-mastery, truly believing that our happiness is, indeed, in our own hands.

Books to Win Every Debate
Arguing? It’s usually not worth it. Most of the time, debates are totally optional—you don’t *have* to engage. Unless you’re running for president or defending your thesis, you can just walk away. Seriously, it’s okay to say, “Not today.” 🙅‍♀️ But if you *do* have a solid reason to dive into a d
