PERFECT FIRST DATE SPOT! 🍣
I hadn’t been on a date in ages and almost settled for a genki sushi after work. My date had other ideas and brought me to a quiet spot near Downtown MRT.
The first thing I noticed was the view. The outdoor seats face the bay area, and that evening the sky was clear with a cool breeze. The staff greeted us with warm smiles. There were limited tables, indoor for groups and the bar tables outdoor perfect for an intimate date. Overall the vibe was almost casual which can help to break the first date jitters!
Here’s what we tried:
1. Aburi Salmon Mentai Sushi – 10/10 Thick slices of salmon lightly torched so it stayed buttery soft. The mentaiko mayo added a smoky, salty creaminess. Little pops of salmon roe and flying fish roe gave it a sweet/umami bite.
2. Salmon Lobster Maki – 10/10 A big roll with salmon and lobster wrapped around avocado. The wasabi mayo was gentle, not too sharp, and the crunchy tempura bits a little more balanced! The roll was definitely huge to put it all in one bite, but you guys can laugh about it which could help break the ice a little more!
3. Chicken Gyoza – 8/10 Crispy on the outside with juicy filling inside. Tasty, but compared to the sushi it felt simple. Do not i'm generally not a fan of gyoza so this may be bias.
Service stayed friendly the whole night. They poured a sweet, easy-to-drink sake my date chose, and we never felt rushed until closing time (we continued the conversation along the river, walking out the calories). If you linger, you can catch the Marina Bay Sands light show from your seat. Overall, this is a cosy spot for a slow weekday dinner, perfect if you want a relaxed first date or a quiet catch-up with friends.

If you're looking for a sushi date spot that's more unique than the usual chain restaurants, this place really stands out. The outdoor seating facing the bay creates a romantic atmosphere perfect for a first date or even a quiet catch-up with friends. One memorable aspect was how the ambience helped ease any first date jitters — the casual vibe, gentle breeze, and warm smiles from the staff made the experience feel effortless. My date chose a sweet sake to pair with the food, which complemented the smoky, creamy flavors of the sushi beautifully. Besides the must-try Aburi Salmon Mentai and Salmon Lobster Maki, the crispy chicken gyoza was also a nice addition, even if not as exciting. The menu offers variety so you can share and enjoy different tastes together. Another bonus is that if you linger near closing time, you might catch the Marina Bay Sands light show right from your seat, adding an unexpected romantic touch to the evening. The location near Downtown MRT makes it convenient to access, and the price point is moderate, delivering great value for a memorable date night. Overall, this spot is a hidden gem for sushi lovers seeking a relaxed yet intimate dining experience away from busy, noisy venues.
