New Apartment Series Part XV: The Move-In Fee ✅
I first want to thank God for getting me through this thing called life that led to me graduating college! 🙏🏽 Then, I wanna still thank Him for giving me a family that can provide for themselves and each other, in turn allowing them to bless me on my special day and beyond. 🫶🏽
Before I left for LA, I had $625 from graduation gifts; I went home and received two cards: 1 with a $100 check and another with a $200 check, both for graduation. Then, someone slipped me $100 cash before I left the house in LA. 😮💨 Blessed and Relieved. The only two words to describe how I was feeling!
I now only had to take $300 out of my check to be able to reach the $1300+ goal for the move-in fee. 🥹 Full transparency, with my account being over drafted, that means I’d be covering myself and taking out more money than I really intended to. But nevertheless, God provided over the past few weeks and well before it was time for me to pay. I’m forever grateful! 🤎

The original title of my little financial tracker was literally 'This is WEALTH,' because honestly, at that moment, having enough to cover my move-in fee felt like winning the lottery. I remember meticulously tracking every dollar. My initial goal was daunting, over $1300 for the move-in fee alone. I had managed to save up $625 from graduation gifts, which was a great start. Then, a few days before leaving, two cards arrived – a $100 check and a $200 check, both graduation blessings. And just as I was about to head out, another $100 cash slipped into my hand. These moments weren't just about the money; they were unexpected gestures of love and support that truly lifted my spirits. Looking at my handwritten financial update, I could see I was still a bit short. The note showed a remaining need of about $295 or $300. It felt like a small gap, but significant when your account is already dealing with an overdraft. I knew I'd have to dip into my upcoming check, taking out a bit more than I initially planned. But honestly, the feeling of getting closer to that goal, piece by piece, was incredibly empowering. There was a specific entry on June 13th about a check that helped bridge a good portion of that remaining gap. And finally, the day came when I made that crucial $600 bank withdrawal, bringing my total cash to $1,325. Seeing that number, knowing I had secured my apartment, was an unparalleled feeling of relief and accomplishment. For me, 'wealth' isn't just about a massive bank account. It's about having what you need when you need it most, often through the kindness of others or your own efforts. It's the security of a roof over your head, the feeling of gratitude for family support, and the peace of mind that comes with overcoming a financial hurdle. This whole experience taught me the true value of budgeting, the magic of unexpected blessings, and the immense richness found in being able to start fresh in a new place. It wasn't just about the money; it was about the journey, the support, and the newfound independence. That, to me, is the real definition of wealth.
