Nail Journey Progress
This is my(late) two week update on my nail journey. Because my nails are still so brittle I have to keep them short to avoid breaking them. But as they get stronger I’ll post more updates!
I totally relate to the feeling of looking at your nails right after gel removal and just seeing a ruined mess. It's truly heartbreaking when you realize how severely damaged your nails have become. My experience was exactly that – after I removed all the gel polish, what was left was just a disaster. They were thin, peeling, and incredibly brittle. I honestly thought I'd never get them back to health, and in that moment, I swore I'd never do gel again. The first two weeks of this nail journey were all about damage control and gentle care. Instead of focusing on rapid nail growth, my priority was just to prevent further breakage. This meant keeping them super short – almost to the quick – to give them a chance to recover without constantly snagging and tearing. I also made sure to file them gently in one direction to smooth out any rough edges that could lead to more peeling. It felt like a small step, but preventing further damage was crucial for any future nail growth progress. Since then, I've really upped my nail care routine. One of the biggest game-changers for me has been consistent moisturizing. I've been slathering on cuticle oil multiple times a day and using a strengthening base coat whenever I paint them. I also started taking a biotin supplement, hoping it would support stronger nail growth from within. I’m also making sure to wear gloves for household chores to protect my recovering nails from harsh chemicals. It’s not an overnight fix, but seeing even a little bit of new growth after gel removal gives me so much hope and keeps me motivated through this process. While my initial reaction was to completely swear off gel, I've started researching healthier alternatives or ways to protect my nails if I ever decide to go back. For now, I'm sticking to regular polish or even just a good strengthener. The key lesson I've learned is that proper removal is absolutely crucial. Pushing for a quick peel-off is what often leads to the worst damage. Taking your time, soaking thoroughly, and resisting the urge to pick is paramount for anyone trying to reclaim their nail health. This 'nail growth progress' is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. I'm focusing on strengthening them from the inside out and being patient with the process. My goal is to eventually have strong, healthy nails that don't break at the slightest touch. It’s been a learning curve, but I'm committed to nursing them back to their former glory. If you're also on a similar journey, remember consistency is your best friend!
