Now that it’s almost spring, it’s time to start transitioning my outfits but also keeping in mind those chillier mornings and evenings!
I love the look of skirts and sweaters but I don’t have that many skirts so here is my go-to to get this look.
Adding a sweater over your dress is the easiest hack to start rotating in your summer wardrobe while still wearing your favorite cozy sweaters that you’re not ready to put away.
Here’s what you’ll need:
👗Your favorite dress, can be long or small!
A tanktop, baby tee, sports bra any sort of smaller/tighter top to wear on top of the dress that we will tuck the sweater into to give it a more cropped and put together look.
Add your favorite sweater on top and tuck the bottom of the sweater into the top of your choice, you can customize the fit to be more cropped and fitted to fit your style preferences!
Ta-da!! Now you look cute and cozy and ready for spring with this perfect dress hack!
... Read moreHey fashion lovers! I recently shared my go-to trick for rocking sweaters over dresses, and I've got even more tips to help you master this game-changing hack. You know how much I love making my wardrobe work harder, and this style not only bridges seasons but also gives your favorite dresses a fresh new life!
When it comes to choosing your pieces, it’s all about balance. For the sweater, I often reach for something like a white cable-knit sweater, as seen in my example, because the texture adds so much visual interest. But honestly, any medium-weight sweater works, whether it's an oversized knit for a cozier vibe or a more fitted one for a sleek silhouette. Think about the neckline too – a crew neck or V-neck can completely change the feel of the outfit. And don't shy away from different materials; a chunky wool knit for colder days or a lighter cotton blend for early spring mornings are both fantastic options.
Now, for the dress! While I showcased a pink slip dress, this hack is incredibly versatile. It works beautifully with midi or maxi dresses, especially those with a straighter cut or a slight A-line. Bodycon dresses can also create a really chic silhouette when paired with a slightly looser sweater. The key is to pick a dress that isn’t too bulky on top, allowing for a smooth tuck. I’ve even tried it with patterned dresses, and it's a great way to tone down a busy print for a more casual look.
The secret to that perfect cropped look lies in the inner layer. My go-to is a white tight top or a sleek tank top, but a bodysuit or even a fitted camisole works wonders. This provides a secure anchor for your sweater, preventing it from looking messy or untucked throughout the day. It also helps define your waist, giving you that flattering 'skirt and sweater outfit' illusion without actually wearing a skirt! You can play with how much you tuck in to adjust the crop level – a deeper tuck for a super cropped look, or a looser tuck for a more relaxed feel.
Beyond just the tuck, consider styling the whole outfit. Pair this look with combat boots for an edgy vibe, or sneakers for a comfy, casual day out. For a more elevated feel, try ankle boots or even some stylish flats. Adding a belt over the tucked sweater can further cinch the waist and add another layer of detail. And don't forget accessories! A delicate necklace or some statement earrings can complete the ensemble.
This hack is truly a lifesaver for extending your wardrobe. Instead of putting away your summer dresses, you can layer them up and embrace the cooler weather in style. It's a fantastic alternative to simply wearing a 'sweater underneath a dress' which can sometimes feel bulky and shapeless. This method offers a much more tailored and fashionable outcome, creating the perfect sweater tucked into skirt outfit illusion. Give it a try and transform your favorite pieces!
