Ethiopian cuisine centers around injera, a spongy flatbread made from teff flour, which is naturally gluten-free and rich in iron and protein. This makes it an excellent base for a balanced meal. Many Ethiopian dishes incorporate lentils, chickpeas, and a variety of vegetables cooked with fragrant spices like berbere, a blend that includes chili peppers, garlic, and ginger. These ingredients not only taste delicious but also provide antioxidants and important nutrients to support a healthy lifestyle. One of my favorite dishes is misir wot, a spicy lentil stew that is hearty and packed with protein and fiber. Pairing it with fresh greens and a piece of injera creates a satisfying meal that's both filling and energizing. Eating Ethiopian food has also introduced me to communal dining traditions, where sharing dishes encourages mindful eating and connection, adding to the overall positive experience. If you're looking to add more plant-based, wholesome meals to your diet, Ethiopian cuisine offers exciting, healthy options worth trying.
