There's not many guides out there that go into detail about what you need to creater your own desk setup, and the ones that do exist lean a lil masculine and don't really explain the WHY or HOW.
As a desk setup girlie, I've created this list of items that take function, price and aesthetic into consideration! You'll see some items labelled as must-haves and some are optional, so it's up to you and your budget!
This is just a guide and some images are decorational, so if things aren't really your taste (it's ok! i wont be offended, im vvv girly lol) you can ignore the images and find similar items that fit your aesthetic better!
Let's break down and discuss each item you may want to include in your desk setup if you were starting from scratch:
🖥️ Monitor - I would highly, HIGHLY suggest working from a monitor if you work from home. Not only does it improve posture but it can definitely increase functionality, too. If you own a laptop, consider connecting it to an external monitor for a better working experience. It really changes the game. I have tips on how to do that on my page. A good size would be around 27-29 inches to begin with imo. It's not much bigger than most laptops so it won't be as 'shocking' as a curved monitor, however, you can totally go for a bigger monitor if you'd prefer!
🧠 Mini PC - I opted to recommend a mini PC rather than a pre-build PC purely because these things are small and powerful, and usually a little cheaper. They're also travel friendly and don't take up much space at all! Great for those who might live in apartments!
⌨️ Keyboard - You'll need one of these. The keyboard itself doesn't matter too much, just choose whatever is within your budget, but I do like the Logi Pebble combo because it comes with a mouse and they're perfect for travelling to and from the office! They're also silent!
🔦 Monitor Light Bar - A necessity! I have a post dedicated to why you need one of these so definitely go and give that a read! You can get them for monitors (curved too) and laptops, so if you decided to skip an external monitor, you can use some of your budget to invest in one of these!
🟥 Desk Mat - A desk mat will add a pop of colour to your space whilst making it easier for your mouse to function. You can opt for a mouse pad and no desk mat, however, I prefer a large desk mat on my desk to keep things looking clean and tidy!
🔉Speakers - A must have for those who are looking to create a gaming setup! They're not as much of a necessity if you work from home, but it's totally up to you! I love listening to music whilst I work!
🎧 Headset - (with a mic) great for those who need privacy with work calls! These aren't a necessity, because regular headphones do the same and have an integrated mic, however sometimes it's easier having a headset dedicated to gaming accessible in your room 24/7!
🎙️Microphone - Again, not a necessity, especially if your space is dedicated to working from home and you do own a headset, however if you are looking at getting into streaming/content creation, I'd recommend an external mic for crisp audio quality!
