📍 Magic Pepper

Tried a new Indian restaurant in the Chicago suburbs and it was honestly really good! 🔥

What we got

✨ Ghee podi idli

✨ Baby corn

✨ Malabar parotta

✨ Mysore masala dosa

✨ Magic mini falooda

✨ Chai

✨ Lime soda

The baby corn was SO good and packed with flavor. The idli and dosa were solid, and the sambhar with all the different chutneys was a favorite. I was most excited for the parotta, but it ended up being my least favorite and not something I would get again 🙃

Also, this was the mini falooda. Just imagine how big the regular one is!!

You know that feeling when a new spot opens and you just have to try it? That was me! I've been seeing a lot of buzz, so I headed over to give you all the honest scoop. First off, let’s talk about the food because that's what we're all here for, right? The baby corn truly stole the show for me. It was incredibly flavorful, perfectly crisp yet tender, and really packed a punch in terms of spices. It wasn't just heat; it was a complex blend that made every bite exciting. Definitely a must-try if you love bold flavors! The ghee podi idli and Mysore masala dosa were solid choices, living up to expectations with that comforting, authentic taste. What really elevated them was the sambhar and the variety of chutneys they served – each one fresh and adding a distinct layer of flavor. It's those little details that really make an Indian meal special, and they nailed it with the condiments. Now, for a bit of a confession: I was most looking forward to the Malabar parotta, as it's a personal favorite. Unfortunately, it ended up being my least favorite dish of the night. It just didn't have that flaky, layered texture and rich buttery taste I associate with a really good parotta. It felt a bit dense and lacked the delicate crispiness that makes it so enjoyable. While everything else was a hit, this one missed the mark for me, and I probably wouldn't order it again. On a sweeter note, the Magic mini falooda was a delightful way to end the meal. It was refreshing and perfectly portioned, though it did make me wonder just how enormous the regular-sized one must be! If you have a sweet tooth, it’s a fun, cooling dessert. Beyond the food, my overall experience at this new Indian restaurant in the Chicago suburbs was very positive. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was welcoming – a great spot for a casual dinner with friends or family. For those of you looking for a fantastic vegetarian-friendly option, Magic Pepper truly delivers. While not every dish was a home run for me, the standout items and the overall quality mean I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. If you're in the Chicago suburbs and craving authentic Indian flavors, especially that incredible baby corn, you should absolutely give Magic Pepper a try!
