One of my favorite memories was visiting the Kōtoku-in Temple, home to the Great Buddha, which remarkably stood tall through many natural disasters including earthquakes and tsunamis. It’s fascinating how this iconic statue has been preserved when many surrounding buildings could not withstand those forces. Strolling down Komachi Street was another highlight. This bustling shopping street is laden with quaint souvenir shops and delightful snack stalls. I recommend trying some traditional Japanese sweets and picking up unique souvenirs to remember your trip by. The atmosphere is lively yet comfortable, offering a perfect blend of culture and modern-day charm. For those who enjoy beach views, I found Shichirigahama and Inamuragasaki beaches particularly scenic and serene spots to relax. At Inamuragasaki, be sure to make a reservation for a window seat at one of the seaside cafes — the view of the train passing right by while you sip your coffee is something special. Foodies will appreciate dining at places like KOME TO COFFEE and Miffy's Oyatsu-do, where the fresh ingredients and generous portions left me very satisfied. Be mindful of the local communication nuances—it can be part of the adventure but also lead to ordering more than intended! Overall, Kamakura beautifully balances its historical heritage, natural beauty, and contemporary culinary delights. It’s a destination that offers diverse experiences, whether you’re a history buff, beach lover, or food enthusiast. Planning your visit during spring will amplify the charm with pleasant weather and blooming scenery, making your trip even more memorable.
