Festina's Purple Ribbon 💜
Festina's purple girl found her forever home in Wisconsin!
When we first began our search for a new furry family member, we knew we wanted a German Shepherd puppy. There’s something so special about their intelligence, loyalty, and protective nature. We spent weeks researching reputable breeders, looking for that perfect match. And then, we found Festina – our beautiful 'purple ribbon' girl! For those wondering, the 'purple ribbon' often refers to a specific puppy in a litter, a unique identifier given by the breeder. It's their way of helping new families track their chosen pup before they’re ready to come home, making the waiting period even more exciting! I remember the day we picked her up like it was yesterday. The car ride home to Wisconsin was filled with anticipation. Bringing a German Shepherd puppy into your home is an incredible experience, but it also comes with its own set of responsibilities and adjustments. We made sure to puppy-proof our home thoroughly, securing anything she might chew or get into. Setting up her little den with a comfy bed, toys, and food/water bowls was one of the first things we did. We also stocked up on durable chew toys, knowing how much GSD puppies love to explore with their mouths! The first few days were a mix of pure joy and some puppy antics! Festina was full of energy, exploring every nook and cranny of her new surroundings. We quickly started on basic potty training and introduced her to her crate, which became her safe haven. It wasn't always smooth sailing – there were a few sleepless nights and some accidents, but consistency and patience were key. Socialization is so important for GSDs, so we began planning safe, supervised introductions to other vaccinated dogs and various sights and sounds. Living in Wisconsin offers so many opportunities for outdoor adventures, and we can’t wait to introduce her to hiking trails and dog-friendly parks once she's a bit older and fully vaccinated. One piece of advice I'd give to anyone considering a German Shepherd puppy, especially a 'purple ribbon' one from a breeder, is to be prepared for their intelligence and energy levels. They thrive on mental stimulation and consistent training. We've been focusing on positive reinforcement and short, fun training sessions daily, which she absolutely loves. From teaching her 'sit' and 'stay' to working on leash manners, every session builds our bond. Watching her learn and grow has been incredibly rewarding. Every day with Festina is an adventure, and we feel so lucky to have this 'purple ribbon dog' join our family. She truly completes our Wisconsin home!
