Valentine Cookie Cakes
My second job is in the bakery at a Weis Markets. I decorated these today. I love it! #valentines day baking
Hey everyone! As someone who gets to play around with frosting and sprinkles in a bakery, I absolutely adore Valentine's Day baking. There's just something so special about creating sweet treats that spread love. And honestly, for a personal touch, nothing beats a homemade Valentine cookie cake! These past few days, I've been busy decorating a bunch of chocolate chip cookie cakes for the holiday, and it truly is one of my favorite tasks. They’re such a perfect gift or dessert for a Valentine's celebration because they're easier than a traditional cake but just as festive and delicious. Plus, who doesn't love a giant cookie? If you're thinking of making your own, the base is usually a soft, chewy chocolate chip cookie dough baked in a round pan. You can use your favorite recipe or even a good quality store-bought mix for convenience. The key is not to overbake it, so it stays moist and fudgy. For the base, while chocolate chip is a crowd-pleaser, don't hesitate to experiment with other flavors like red velvet for a festive twist, or even a sugar cookie base for a smoother canvas. Once it's cooled, that's where the real fun begins – the decorating! For a classic Valentine's look, I always start with a smooth layer of *white frosting*. Buttercream is fantastic because it's easy to pipe and holds its shape well. As for frosting, a classic vanilla buttercream is perfect, but a cream cheese frosting or even a strawberry-flavored one would also be divine. The key is to make sure it's thick enough to hold your decorations. Then, for the borders, I love to use a star tip to create a pretty, scalloped edge around the perimeter. It instantly elevates the look and makes it feel professional, even if you’re just starting out. Now for the festive bits! Heart-shaped sprinkles are a must – they instantly scream Valentine's Day. You can scatter them randomly or create patterns. And for the centerpiece, I often use large heart decorations or arrange a few conversation heart candies to spell out a sweet message like "Love" or "Be Mine." You can also pipe "Happy Valentine's Day" or a simple "XOXO" directly onto the frosting using a contrasting color. Don't be afraid to get creative with colors! While pink, red, and white are traditional, a touch of purple or even some metallic edible glitter can make your cookie cake truly stand out. Remember, it's about having fun and putting your heart into it. The recipients will definitely feel the love. Once your masterpiece is complete, packaging it properly makes all the difference. Clear plastic containers, similar to what we use in the bakery, not only protect your beautiful creation but also show it off. Add a pretty ribbon, and you've got a wonderful, personalized gift. So go ahead, bake some love this Valentine's Day!
