Mom in need of advice
Hi mom friends….
I’m a mom to a beautiful toddler girl and I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place with my job. I just started as a cardiac cath lab RN and I’ve come to realize that being on call one night during the week and call every forth/fifth weekend being away from my baby and my husband is taking a toll on me… and I just started there in May. I love the aspect of the job but I live 32 minutes away from the hospital and since I am outside the call range of 30 minutes I’m required to stay at the hospital or the call house they gave us. And keep getting told that sneaking home to see them on my weekends on isn’t going to be able to happen much longer. I’m on of three people that have littles but the only one that lives out of call range. And with the economy, interest rates, and my husband not wanting to move closer to my work…. I’m stuck in a rut….
I have found office RN positions that would better fit my family lifestyle and close to home but I’m scared to do it. Please help.
Balancing motherhood with a challenging career can be incredibly difficult, especially for new moms. When working in healthcare, such as a cardiac cath lab RN, the demands of being on-call can severely affect family time. It's crucial to evaluate how your job impacts not only your schedule but also your mental health and family dynamics. Many moms find themselves in similar situations, torn between a rewarding career and the desire to spend quality time with their children. Exploring alternative nursing positions can often provide a solution that offers more predictable hours and allows for a better work-life balance. Office RN roles, in particular, may offer more stability and proximity to home, alleviating stress related to commuting and on-call responsibilities. It's important to consider all options and perhaps tap into your network for support or advice. Engaging with communities of fellow working mothers can provide invaluable insights and reassurance. Remember, prioritizing your well-being and family time is essential, and finding a job that aligns with your lifestyle is possible.

This must be so hard! Most of my mom patients work remote doing some type of case manager roles. ( if Iim not mistaken ) you can check something like that out
