Justice for Jaynice Ferguson. 💜🕊️

She warned them he would unalive her — now he’s been sentenced.

Jaynice Ferguson was only 23 years old. Before her life was taken, those close to her say she endured ongoing threats, harassment, and repeated harm from her ex.

On January 17, 2024, Jaynice was found with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex in Houston, Texas. In her final moments, she was able to tell officers that her ex-boyfriend was responsible.

Investigators later confirmed a long history of violence, including prior charges and a protective order that sadly did not stop the pattern.

After reviewing the evidence, a jury found Algie Mac Washington guilty. On April 22, 2026, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Jaynice deserved safety. She deserved peace. She deserved to live.

... Read moreExperiencing or witnessing domestic violence is a deeply personal and painful issue that affects millions worldwide. Jaynice Ferguson’s story, though heartbreaking, highlights the critical need for stronger protections and support for victims. Many survivors face challenges similar to Jaynice’s, including ongoing harassment despite protective orders that may fail to prevent repeated harm. In my own experience volunteering at local shelters, I’ve seen how crucial community awareness and accessible resources are in helping victims find safety and rebuild their lives. Protective orders can be a vital tool, but they often need to be enforced rigorously, with law enforcement and legal systems working closely to intervene swiftly when violations occur. Jaynice's case also underscores the importance of speaking out and breaking the silence around domestic violence. Campaigns like #SayHerName, #JusticeForJayniceFerguson, and #DomesticViolenceAwareness play a key role in educating the public and advocating for systemic change. If you or someone you know is in a similar situation, know that help is available. Hotlines, shelters, and support groups can provide crucial assistance. No one deserves to live in fear or suffer violence, and justice, as in Jaynice’s case, must be actively pursued. The sentencing of Algie Mac Washington to 30 years in prison is a reminder that accountability is possible, but prevention through education, support, and stronger legal protections remains essential to protect others from similar tragedies.
