Hey fellow Scion xB owners! After diving deep into my own Scion xB's engine woes, I've learned a ton about general car care and those little things that pop up. One common question I hear, and something I've definitely dealt with, is how to get rid of that pesky 'MAINT REQD' light on the dashboard. It’s a super easy fix, and honestly, if I can tackle an engine overhaul, you can definitely reset this light yourself with a bit of 'GIRL POWER' attitude! First off, don't panic when you see it. This isn't your 'Check Engine' light, which usually signals a more serious issue. The 'MAINT REQD' light is simply your Scion xB's way of reminding you it's time for routine service, usually an oil change. It's programmed to come on every 5,000 miles or so after your last reset. So, before you reset it, make sure you've actually performed the necessary maintenance, like an oil change, tire rotation, or whatever schedule you follow. Resetting it without doing the service won't do your car any favors in the long run! Here’s a quick, step-by-step guide to reset that maintenance light on your Scion xB (this works for many models, including my 2010, but always double-check your owner's manual if you're unsure!): Turn the Ignition OFF: Make sure your car is completely off, not just in accessory mode. Press and Hold the ODO/TRIP Button: Locate the ODO/TRIP button (it's usually near your speedometer) and press and hold it down. You’ll want to keep holding it throughout the next step. Turn Ignition ON (Engine Off): While still holding the ODO/TRIP button, turn your ignition key to the 'ON' position (don't start the engine). You'll see the dashboard lights come on. Watch for the Reset: Keep holding the button. You'll usually see a series of dashes (like '----' or '000000') appear on the odometer display, and then they'll disappear, or the 'MAINT REQD' light itself might flash a few times and then go out. This indicates the reset is complete. Release the Button: Once the light is off or the dashes disappear, you can release the ODO/TRIP button. Confirm the Reset: Turn the ignition off, then start your car. The 'MAINT REQD' light should now be gone! If it doesn't reset on the first try, don't worry! Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts, or you might not have held the button long enough. Just repeat the steps carefully. Remember, this simple DIY task is part of being a proactive car owner and keeping your Scion xB running smoothly, whether you're just resetting a light or diving into more complex engine repair like I did! Happy driving!
