A friend once told me, “If I can stick to morning runs for three months, I’ll never have to worry about laziness again.”

I laughed — but she’s right.

The three-month effect never fails.

Whenever I want to start (or restart) something, I tell myself:

Just give it three months. Then decide.

✍️ Writing

In the beginning, writing 1,000 words felt impossible.

I’d sit for hours, drained, unable to produce even a sentence I liked.

By month three, everything shifted.

1,000 words took half an hour.

One afternoon I wrote 5,000 words without noticing the sun set.

That was the first time I felt the joy of creating.

🏃Running

At first I could barely run a kilometer.

But after three months, my body adapted —

and sweating daily felt natural.

Three months of hand-stringing beads every day, searching for high-quality stones, designing pieces customers loved, caring for the crystals regularly.

Now people message me to ask for crystal advice, to share photos, to exchange thoughts.

A small hobby grew into a quiet, shining community.

Over time, I’ve come to understand long-termism in six simple words: Make time your friend.

Believe that any overwhelming pain, given enough time, will soften.

Believe that any small effort, given enough time, will bloom into transformation.

Every change needs a preparation period before it reaches a tipping point — a moment of small victory. And that moment matters more than we think. It determines the direction, the momentum, even the outcome.

So now, whenever I want to start something new, I tell myself: Give it three months. Then decide.

Even if the result isn’t ideal, I can accept it.

Because I chose, I tried, and I stayed consistent.

No regret.

I am proud of myself for showing up.

And that pride — is a victory in itself.

My personal journey with breaking habits often starts with identifying triggers. For example, I realized I had a habit of mindless scrolling right before bed, which affected my sleep. Instead of just saying "no more phone," I strategized. For 90 days, I replaced scrolling with reading a physical book or doing some light stretching. The first few weeks were tough – my hand instinctively reached for my phone! But by sticking with it, even on days I felt like giving in, I started to notice a shift. The urge lessened, and the new routine felt more natural. Another thing that helped me immensely was creating visual reminders. I started wearing a simple, black beaded crystal bracelet – not just for its aesthetic, but as a tangible symbol of my commitment. Every time I noticed it, it was a gentle nudge to stay aware of my intentions. Sometimes, just having that little physical cue can make a big difference in staying on track, especially when you’re trying to break a deeply ingrained habit. This strategy turned something abstract into a concrete, daily practice. Here’s what I learned works best: Be Specific: Clearly define the habit you want to break. "Stop eating junk food" is too vague. "No sugary drinks after 3 PM for 90 days" is much more actionable. Identify Your Triggers: What situations, emotions, or times of day lead to the habit? Once you know your triggers, you can plan how to avoid them or replace the old habit with a new, positive one. Find a Replacement: Don't just remove; replace. If you're breaking a snacking habit, have healthy alternatives readily available. If you're reducing screen time, have a book or a craft project nearby. Track Your Progress: Seeing your streak grow can be incredibly motivating. Use an app, a journal, or even just tally marks on a calendar. Don't beat yourself up for a slip; just get back on track the next day. Embrace the Small Wins: Every day you choose differently is a victory. Celebrate those moments, no matter how small. They build momentum over the 90 days. Just like building new things, breaking old ones requires patience and belief in the process. Give yourself the gift of 90 days.
