Residential vs Commercial
I focus almost exclusively on residential art curation as opposed to commercial. The biggest reason is that it feels so meaningful to me to guide clients into this experience with art and it’s all so personal and intimate. It’s just not the same process when the values are corporate vs personal, and the intention company wide vs individual
Many people ask me, 'What is art curation, exactly?' It's a fantastic question, and one that gets right to the heart of what I do. At its core, art curation is about thoughtfully selecting, arranging, and presenting artworks to tell a story, evoke an emotion, or create a specific atmosphere. It's much more than simply hanging a picture on a wall; it's about creating a dialogue between the art, the space, and the person experiencing it. For me, the magic truly happens in residential art curation. While commercial art curation often focuses on branding, investment, or public appeal for corporate spaces, residential curation is deeply personal and intimate. It's about transforming a house into a home, reflecting the unique personality, passions, and life journey of the individual or family living there. Imagine walking into your living room and every piece of art not only looks beautiful but also resonates with a memory, a dream, or a feeling that is uniquely yours. The process of residential curation is a journey we embark on together. It usually starts with a conversation – getting to know you, your lifestyle, your likes and dislikes, and what kind of emotions you want your home to evoke. Do you love bold colors, serene landscapes, abstract forms, or perhaps vintage photography? We consider the existing decor, the lighting, the flow of the rooms, and how each piece will contribute to the overall harmony of your sanctuary. It's about understanding your story so that the art can tell it too. Once we have a clear vision, the search begins! This can involve exploring local galleries, discovering emerging artists, or even finding unique pieces online. It’s a treasure hunt to find artworks that not only fit the aesthetic but also speak to your soul. Budget is always a consideration, and there are incredible pieces of art available at all price points. My goal is to find art that you will love for years to come, that grows with you, and that feels like an authentic extension of who you are. Finally, comes the placement and installation. This is where the arrangement truly brings the space to life. We consider scale, balance, and how different pieces interact with each other. Sometimes, a single impactful piece can define a room, while other times, a thoughtfully curated gallery wall can tell a rich, layered story. The joy for me comes from seeing a client's face light up when their space is transformed, feeling a deeper connection to their environment through the art surrounding them. That personal connection and the intimate experience of bringing art into someone's home is why I find residential curation so incredibly meaningful and rewarding.
