I have never been to the spa before, so for Mother’s Day my dad treated me and my mom to a day together at the spa!
When we got there everyone spoke in a really whispery tone which was a little weird but I guess it just adds to the experience.
I got my first EVER massage which was a little scary because I didn’t know what to expect. I’m really happy I did it because afterwards my neck tension was completely released. My neck hasn’t felt like that forever.
I also got a facial, which I’ve had one before. My skin felt so much better and clean. Although they used some weird face mask that smelled like pudding, I didn’t really like that one because it stung a little bit which is normal for me, I have really sensitive skin.
We then got lunch that had been ordered right when we got there and was ready at the scheduled lunchtime!
Finally we had a pedicure, which was really nice for me because I usually do my own gel at home. I picked a light pink color which I should have taken a photo of but I was taking in the experience and forgot to take more pictures.
After all the services we were invited to stay as long as we wanted so I sat in the infrared sauna and took a steam shower.
I highly recommend trying a spa at least once in your life. I feel totally reset and I plan on going back!

... Read moreHaving just experienced my very first spa day, I can tell you it's an absolute game-changer! If you're like I was, a little nervous about what to expect, or perhaps you're planning your own special treat, here are some tips from my recent journey to help you make the most of your first time at the spa.
First off, how do you even choose a spa? While my experience was a gift, if you're looking to book your own, start by thinking about what you want. Are you after a specific treatment, or just a general day of relaxation? Look for places with good reviews, and don't be afraid to check out their treatment menus online. Sometimes, photos can give you a feel for the ambiance – like if it has a welcoming, cozy spa waiting room. Think about location too; whether you're eyeing a big city spot or a local retreat, ensure it's convenient for you to truly unwind.
Once you’ve chosen, what should you prepare? Honestly, not much! Most spas provide robes, towels, and toiletries. I'd recommend bringing a comfortable change of clothes for afterwards, maybe a book if you plan on spending time in a relaxation area, and a water bottle to stay hydrated (especially if you'll be using saunas or steam rooms). You’ll want to arrive a bit early to check in, fill out any forms, and get settled. This also gives you time to enjoy that tranquil waiting room before your treatments begin.
During your treatments, communication is key! I was a little nervous for my first-ever massage, especially in the dimly lit spa treatment room. But remember, the therapist is there to make you comfortable. If the pressure is too much or too little, or if you're sensitive to certain products (like my pudding-scented facial mask!), don't hesitate to speak up. They want you to have the best experience possible. For my facial, even though I'd had one before, I still mentioned my sensitive skin upfront. This ensures they tailor the experience to your needs.
Don't forget to refuel! My mom and I had a delicious fresh green salad for lunch, which was perfect – light yet satisfying. Many spas offer healthy meal options, so take advantage of that to keep your energy up without feeling heavy. After your treatments, take full advantage of the facilities. I loved sitting in the infrared sauna and then taking a steam shower. It really helped extend that feeling of total relaxation and reset. It’s all part of the experience, so don't rush out. Savor every moment. I promise, you'll leave feeling completely refreshed and, like me, already planning your return!
