Hey you.

Today was the my bosses last day. They have now retired.

Oh, how lovely it would be to retire but alas, I may well be working into my 70’s, the way things are going.

That’s if the price of living doesn’t kill me first. 😭

... Read moreRetirement is a milestone many of us look forward to, yet often it feels like an uncertain horizon, especially with today’s economic challenges. Having witnessed a close colleague or boss retire can bring both inspiration and a touch of anxiety. It makes you reflect on your own journey — wondering if you'll be able to retire comfortably, or whether rising living expenses might force you to keep working past traditional retirement age. From personal experience, seeing someone close to you step into retirement creates a mixture of emotions. There’s joy for their new chapter, but also an unavoidable recognition of how complex and unpredictable financial planning can be. The cost of living has been steadily increasing, impacting everything from housing to daily essentials, and this understandably affects how soon one can realistically consider retirement. In addition to financial concerns, mental and emotional readiness for retirement is equally important. Retirement isn’t just about stopping work; it’s about finding purpose and joy in new ways. The shift from a structured work schedule to more free time requires adjustment. Many find fulfillment through hobbies, travel, or spending more time outdoors. Speaking of travel, visiting places like Tokyo Skytree can provide a refreshing perspective. This iconic spot in Japan symbolizes modern innovation and cultural heritage, a great reminder that life’s beauty often lies in exploration and new experiences. It’s a perfect escape from daily worries, even if only through planning or virtual tours. Ultimately, acknowledging these realities openly—as done here—helps destigmatize financial and emotional stress about retirement. By sharing candid thoughts and experiences, we connect with others facing similar journeys, creating a supportive community that understands the complexities of modern life and the dream of a secure, meaningful retirement.
