Without you there is no them #dementiadisruptor

3/19 Edited to

... Read moreAs someone who has faced the challenges of caregiving, I completely relate to the feelings Dr. Becky describes—those exhausting days when you just don’t feel your best but still have to keep going. One of the hardest things I’ve learned is that self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential. When you hear 'Without you, there is no them,' it really highlights that your wellbeing directly impacts your ability to care for others. In my experience, tapping into a support network is a game changer. Whether it’s family, friends, or professional respite caregivers, having someone step in—even for just a few hours—can give you the chance to recharge. This time can be used to catch up on sleep, enjoy a healthy meal, or simply have quiet time to decompress. Hydration and nutrition are often overlooked but make a huge difference in energy levels and mood. I try to keep a water bottle handy at all times and prepare simple but nourishing meals. When I’m running low on energy, even a brief walk outside helps clear my mind and reduce stress. It’s also important to recognize the signs that you need help before reaching burnout. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or emotionally drained, reach out. Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. Remember, the caregiving journey is tough but you don’t have to do it alone. Taking care of yourself ensures you have the strength to support your loved one. Keep in mind Dr. Becky’s message: ‘If there’s no you, there’s no them.’ Embrace that truth and prioritize yourself—you deserve it.
