NEVER in a million years did I think I would…

NEVER in a million years did I think I would ever be a surgeon! I despised blood and freaked me out to see anything like that! In 2008 when @cayeling was pregnant with Braedyn I signed up for the baby emails. I read them every week and became fascinated with the process. How a human being can grow and develop was so amazing! I also got hooked on those medical shows of that time including Trauma: Life in the ER, Hopkins, Boston Med and of course Grey’s Anatomy. — One night we were having a birthday dinner at Outback Steakhouse with friends and one guy there said he was getting ready to go to medical school. I was an immediate fanboy and thought that was just the most amazing thing and that he must be the smartest person I had ever met! After chatting and telling him how much I enjoyed the medical shows he looks at me and says “You should go to medical school!” I just laughed it off thinking that was a WILD idea. I had a construction business that was hanging on by a shoestring that needed my attention every minute of the day. There was no way I could leave that and make such a big change like EVEN ATTEMPTING to apply to medical schools….. but the thought would not go away… I started googling what classes one would have to take to apply and the long list was astonishing. Plus I was a business major and did not have a single class completed on the list! However, something crazy came into my mind and I thought I would just add the first chemistry class during the week before my second to last semester at BYU. It didn’t cost any more as I had already maxed out my schedule with business classes. Any additional class was essentially free at the time. When I added the GenChem101 class I thought for sure I would drop it before the add/drop deadline. I thought I would just go for a day or two just to check it out. — On the first day the auditorium was packed. I mean packed! Standing room only. Anyone that ever thought about health care or promised their grandma they were gonna be somebody was there! I felt out of place. As the professor began speaking I began to be very very intrigued. I hadn’t taken science since high school. I love it. The rest is history! More to come.
