... Read moreWow, you guys! I'm still pinching myself because what started as a simple character design session accidentally blossomed into something truly special: my very own open species, the HoneyPot Foxes! I'm so thrilled to finally share all the details about these adorable creatures, which I've been calling HoneyPots for short. It's been such a fun journey seeing them come to life from just an old sona concept into fully-fledged characters, and now I'm inviting you all to join in the creative fun! So, what exactly are HoneyPot Foxes? At their core, they are a charming, often fluffy species distinguished by their incredibly unique liquid-filled tails. Imagine a tail that acts like a living, glowing vial, containing anything from shimmering nectar to glowing stardust! This is one of their most iconic features, and it offers endless possibilities for customization and lore. The color and type of liquid in their tail can often hint at their personality, abilities, or even their natural habitat. For example, some might have tails filled with sweet, golden "honey" (hence the name!), while others could carry sparkling "dew drops" or even mystical "moon water." My character reference sheet for the HoneyPot species, which you might have seen, really dives into the specifics. It highlights various color variations for their fur and markings, encouraging a wide spectrum of creative designs. We also touch upon subtle male/female traits, allowing for distinct yet cohesive character interpretations. One of the most fascinating aspects I've developed is their egg characteristics. HoneyPot Fox eggs are often translucent or semi-transparent, allowing glimpses of the developing kit inside, and they sometimes even glow softly, mirroring the liquid in their parents' tails! Hatching is a magical event, usually coinciding with a significant celestial alignment or a burst of natural energy. For those new to the concept, an open species means that anyone can create their own HoneyPot Fox character! There are usually some basic guidelines to ensure they remain recognizable as part of the species, but beyond that, your creativity is the limit. My hope is that this species fosters a vibrant community where artists and writers can share their unique HoneyPot creations, develop their own lore, and even interact with each other's characters. It’s about building a shared world together. To get started on creating your very own HoneyPot Fox, a great first step is to study the character reference sheet. Pay attention to the core anatomical features, the iconic liquid-filled tails, and the general aesthetic. Think about what kind of liquid types your fox might have – is it sweet, fiery, icy, or something entirely otherworldly? How does this liquid influence their personality or abilities? Consider their color palette; do they have natural earthy tones, or vibrant, fantastical hues? Don't be afraid to experiment with different patterns and accessories to make your character truly stand out. What kind of home would they have? How do they interact with other HoneyPots? These questions can help you flesh out their story. I can't wait to see what incredible HoneyPot Foxes you all come up with! Please feel free to share your designs, stories, and ideas. Let's make this species thrive together!
