THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE STARTING HIGHSCHOOL📚‼️

2024/8/1 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! High school is a big step, and I remember feeling a mix of excitement and total overwhelm when I was about to start. It can feel like a whole new world, especially with all the new classes, people, and expectations. I genuinely wish someone had given me a real roadmap or shared some insider tips before I jumped in. So, from my own experience, here’s my personal take on what truly helped me thrive and what I wish I’d known way sooner to make those four years amazing. First up, and possibly the most crucial: STAY ORGANIZED (Seriously!). This isn't just about having a neat locker or a tidy backpack; it’s about mastering your time and workload. I learned the hard way that a planner, whether it’s a physical one or a digital app, is your absolute best friend. Write down every single assignment, test date, project deadline, and even your extracurricular activities. Create a dedicated study space at home where you can focus without distractions. Keeping your backpack tidy and knowing where everything is will save you so much stress; rummaging for a lost paper right before class is the worst feeling! Being organized reduces stress big time and helps you stay on top of your grades without feeling constantly overwhelmed. It makes a huge difference in how well you do and how much free time you actually have to enjoy yourself. Next, BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR TEACHERS. They’re not just there to grade you; they are incredibly valuable allies and resources! I used to be so shy about talking to my teachers outside of class, but then I realized how much they can help. Ask questions in class when you don't understand something, stay after for a quick chat if you're still confused, or even just say a friendly hello in the hallway. These connections can lead to extra help with challenging subjects, fantastic college recommendations down the line, and even insights into potential career paths you might not have considered. Plus, it simply makes school a more positive and supportive place when you feel like your teachers know and care about you. Then, BE OKAY WITH NOT HAVING A HUGE FRIEND GROUP. When I started high school, I thought I needed to be popular or have a massive crew of friends. But honestly, I quickly learned that quality over quantity is so incredibly true here. It's perfectly okay if your friend circle is small, or if it takes you a while to find your people. Focus on genuine connections with individuals who uplift you. Don't be afraid to try new clubs, sports, or activities – that’s often where I found friends who truly shared my interests and values. And remember, sometimes the best company is your own; learning to be comfortable and confident alone is a superpower that will serve you well beyond high school. My fourth piece of advice: STAY OUT OF THE DRAMA (It's Not Worth It!). High school can sometimes feel like a hotbed for gossip, petty arguments, and unnecessary drama. My biggest piece of advice here is to steer clear. Seriously, it drains your energy, creates stress, and distracts you from what truly matters – your education, your personal growth, and actually enjoying your time. If you hear rumors, don't spread them. If you're invited into an argument or a gossip session, gracefully step away. Your mental peace and focus are far more important than being in the know about every little spat. Focus on your goals and cultivate positive interactions. And finally, HAVE FUN!!!! Don't let the stress of academics overshadow the entire high school experience. This is a unique and formative time for exploration! Join a sport, try out for the school play, participate in a debate club, or even start your own interest group. This is how you discover new passions, develop valuable skills, and make some of your most memorable high school moments. It also helps you unwind and provides a much-needed balance to your studies, preventing burnout. Embrace all the opportunities, step out of your comfort zone, and make the absolute most of these four years – they fly by faster than you think! High school is definitely a journey with its ups and downs, but with these tips, I truly believe you can make it an incredible experience. You've got this!
