Skelita Calaveras first appeared in the series Monster High: Scaris - City of Frights and first released the doll in November 2012.
She's a vibrant skeleton girl who celebrates ancestral memories, not sadness.
Mattel later created a special edition "Día De Muertos Edition" under the Monster High Howliday Collection.
It is designed to reflect gracefully Mexican culture, and is a model exclusively for collectors.
This version of the doll is intricately designed at every point. On the face is dressed as the Sugar Skull pattern, the central symbol of the Día De Muertos Festival.
Her dress was inspired by La Catrina, an elegant female skeleton.
The stenciled skirt conveys Papel Picado, a fresh colored paper flag that believes that when blown away...
Meaning the soul has returned to visit the house.
Her jewelry and shoes are all adorned with marigolds, the sacred flowers of Mexicans who believe that their scent will guide the soul back to the world of the living.

The Día De Muertos Edition has successive releases in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
