For many of us, especially growing up in the 90s, seeing those iconic hair relaxer boxes with the adorable young Black girls on them is one of those things. I swear, every trip to the beauty supply store or even just rummaging through my mom's bathroom cabinet, those faces were everywhere! It wasn't just a product; it was part of our shared experience. We all remember brands like "Just For Me" perm box, right? Our parents were always trying to get our hair 'just right,' and these boxes were a staple. Recently, I stumbled upon the most incredible 'then and now' series that literally gave me goosebumps! Someone actually tracked down some of the young models who graced those classic perm boxes from the 90s, and let me tell you, their glow-ups are absolutely phenomenal. It's truly wild to see these familiar faces, who were once just little girls with perfectly styled hair on a box, now as stunning, successful grown women. One of the transformations that truly struck me featured a young girl from a hair relaxer box, who, if memory serves me right, had super straight, sleek hair back then. Fast forward to today, and she's embracing her natural beauty with voluminous curly hair – it's such a powerful and beautiful evolution! Another comparison showed a girl with a classic high ponytail on her box, and now she's rocking a gorgeous, long braid, looking incredibly chic. It just goes to show how much styles and personal journeys can change over the years. There was even a model pictured with straight hair on her original perm box, who now sports striking blonde dreadlocks! It's such a bold and beautiful statement, and it really highlights the diversity and strength of Black hair journeys. And remember the girl with the braided hair in a ponytail? Seeing her now with her natural curly hair, looking radiant, made me feel like we truly grew up alongside these women. It’s more than just a hair product; these images evoke a sense of shared history and memory. It's not just about the hair either. Some of these women have gone on to achieve amazing things. One picture showed a young girl from a box cover, and her 'now' photo revealed a grown woman wearing a sparkly dress and an 'ILLINOIS' sash – suggesting she might have competed in pageants or achieved some form of recognition! It's heartwarming to see them thrive. This whole experience of seeing them then and now really makes you think about how much time has passed and how influential these small images were in our lives and culture. It's a true throwback that brings a smile to my face, and I hope it does the same for you!
