... Read moreSummer is here, and with it comes the need to stay cool and hydrated! I used to reach for sugary sports drinks or sodas, but I've found a game-changer that not only tastes incredible but also genuinely makes me feel better. It’s my personal 'BEST REFRESHER SPECIAL DRINK' – a homemade electrolyte concoction that's zero sugar and packed with everything you need to beat the heat, literally trading those store-bought options for something better! Why Go Homemade for Summer Hydration? For me, it's all about control. Many popular sports drinks are loaded with artificial colors, flavors, and a ton of sugar. My DIY natural energy drink lets me skip all that. Plus, it's super cost-effective! When you're constantly refilling your cup in the summer, those drink mixes can really add up, but making your own base is much more budget-friendly. The Power of Pink Himalayan Salt This is where the magic happens! Just a couple of shakes of RIEGA HIMALAYAN PINK SALT in your drink isn't just for taste; it's a fantastic source of electrolytes. Unlike regular table salt, pink Himalayan salt contains trace minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium, which are crucial for fluid balance and nerve function, especially when you're sweating a lot. The key, as I learned through trial and error (and a few too many salty sips!), is *not to overdo it*. A little goes a long way to get those electrolytes without making your drink unpleasant. My Favorite Zero-Sugar Flavor Base I love experimenting with different zero-sugar drink mixes, but one of my absolute favorites is the SONIC Ocean Water Zero Sugar Drink Mix. It gives such a refreshing, unique flavor that makes me feel like I’m on vacation. The beauty of these mixes is that you can find so many fruit-based options – lemon, berry, peach – allowing you to customize your hydration to your cravings. I typically use about 32 ounces of water with one to two packets, depending on how strong I want the flavor that day. It’s perfect for creating a truly custom 'refresher special drink' that's full of electrolytes without any added sugar. Boosting with Fresh Fruit (High in Vitamin C!) While I don't always add fruit, especially if I'm using a flavored mix, I absolutely love to when I'm drinking plain water or want an extra nutritional kick. My go-to is often frozen Great Value Mixed Fruit – think pineapple, sliced strawberries, peaches, and mango. Not only do they add a natural sweetness and beautiful color, but they also provide essential vitamins. For instance, those strawberries and mango are High In Vitamin C, which is great for your immune system, especially during those long summer days. Plus, the frozen fruit acts like extra ice, keeping your drink perfectly chilled. Making Hydration a Habit Staying hydrated in the summer is more than just drinking when you're thirsty. I like to prepare a big batch of this drink in the morning and keep it in an insulated cup or bottle, ready to go. It’s a delicious, easy way to ensure I'm getting those vital electrolytes and avoiding dehydration. This simple recipe has become my secret weapon for feeling energized and refreshed, no matter how hot it gets outside. Give it a try, and you might just find your new favorite summer drink too!
