I have a long way to go but I have not come that far and seen so much progress so I’ll share it. #1 I stopped getting quickweaves. Granted, they look soOoo beautiful! But I used to wear them back to back and they really made my hair shed to the point where I could see straight through my hair. There was no thickness left and the length I had, I needed to cut it all off. #2 I cut my hair into a bob (1 month ago) I noticed it starting to grow back healthier and longer. Mind you, the cut was uneven because I was not losing all my hair just to even out the trim. No ma’am. #3 I take an iron supplement because I’m anemic and it directly affects my hair growth. I also take other hair supplements but that’s another story for another time.

After experiencing significant hair shedding due to back-to-back quickweaves, I realized that protective styles could sometimes do more harm than good if not managed properly. Removing quickweaves gave my scalp a much-needed break, allowing my natural hair to breathe and recover. Cutting my hair into a shorter bob was a bold but necessary move. Many people dread cutting their length, but trimming damaged or thin areas encourages healthier regrowth and helps prevent split ends from traveling up the hair shaft. You don’t have to wait for your hair to be completely damaged before trimming; regular trims can maintain hair health overall. Taking iron supplements was another critical part of my journey. Anemia can cause hair thinning as iron plays an essential role in carrying oxygen to hair follicles, which is vital for growth. Supplementing iron alongside a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals helped provide the internal nourishment my hair needed to revitalise. Alongside these steps, I also started being more gentle with my scalp by reducing heat styling and avoiding harsh chemicals. Using moisturizing oils and natural hair masks helped keep my hair hydrated. Patience was important—as hair cycles are slow, seeing visible growth in a month was encouraging but maintaining these habits is essential for long-term health. Overall, my experience highlights that hair regrowth involves a combination of stopping damaging practices, nurturing the scalp and hair, and addressing underlying health issues. Sharing personal experiences like this can empower others facing similar challenges to take actionable steps towards healthier hair.
