Thoughts about pet fountain ⛲️
From Double’s real life experience🐈, I feel water fountain is a good investment on pet, especially for cats.
Before I got this, Double doesn’t like to drink water and even Vet was telling me he needs to drink at least 200 ml of water per day. If not, for male cats may have the risk of getting urinary problems in the future, like urocystitis or kidney stones. So for his health consideration in the long run, I bought a water fountain for him.
And first day was funny, I found he peed so much more in the litterbox (P4). This thing has arouse his curiosity. He drinks more often and more water intaking in total!
The reason is that cats love fresh water. Like we usually find our cats either are drinking water from our cups or drink water from toilet 🚽 (think about how many times u flush it and how many times u change water in cat bowls everyday🥲).
But there is one obvious disadvantage about pet fountain that we are too lazy to clean that everyday! Even it is running to make it looks like fresh water for pets and actually it may not. 🤔
What I usually do is I use bottled water to fill the tank (cause bottled water contains less bacteria like tap water so it stays fresh longer). And after three or four days when it drys, I unplug and open it, then washing it throughly with hot water and dish soap (killing bacteria). Also after certain time period, I need to change the filter pad and some other consumable items inside such as rubber tubes, sponge next to the water pump. (These varys from different brands of pet fountains. )
I also put his water bowl next his food, just in case he wants or when fountain drys all of a sudden. But surprisingly I found out, since Double got that fountain, he is only drinking water from there. 😂 I guess which is good.
One time my friend brings her dog here hanging for a while. And her dog 🐶 was curious about water fountain too! The dog drinks a lot of water but we don’t know at the beginning. Took the dog to pee for 3 times in that afternoon lol. Until they left, Double found his water fountain empty and then we realized what happened . 🤣 Lmao.
So if you want your pet to drink more water, it helps! But it’s not the only way. Switching their diet from dry food into wet food also helps a lot!
