Since the Pokémon trading card game (TCG) market is booming, counterfeiters have become more sophisticated, so knowing how to carefully inspect cards is crucial. Firstly, always examine the card’s texture and weight. Genuine Pokémon cards have a distinct cardstock that feels sturdy but not too thick, often with a slight glossy finish. Fake cards may feel too flimsy or overly glossy. One way to check weight is by comparing the suspect card to a confirmed authentic card; differences can sometimes be noticed by hand, signaling a counterfeit. Secondly, inspect the printing quality closely. Authentic cards have sharp, clean edges in their artwork and text. Look for blurred images, pixelated graphics, or misaligned text which are key giveaways of fakes. The Pokémon font is unique and should match official cards exactly—any deviations likely indicate a counterfeit. Another tip is to hold the card up to a light source; genuine cards use specific layering that blocks light evenly, while fake cards may let light pass unevenly or reveal a different backing. Counterfeit cards might have unusual coloring on the back or inconsistent holographic patterns. Moreover, check the rarity symbols and card number. Fakes often get these details wrong or inconsistent with the series they claim to be from. Cross-reference online with official databases to verify these details. Finally, when buying online or at events like Pokémon TCG tournaments and conventions, always deal with trusted sellers. Request close-up photos, ask about return policies, and if an offer sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Using community forums and social media like #pokemoncards and #pokemontcg can help gather feedback on sellers and spot trends in counterfeits. By combining these checks and staying informed, you can greatly reduce the risk of falling victim to fake Pokémon cards and keep your collection safe and authentic.

I just got this card which could be real I am just very new. I did compare it to pictures of it online and the bottom left corner doesn’t match. This is my very first card so I don’t have anything to compare it to, to know for sure.
