Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4
Did anyone else forget that Koji Kashin was still alive this whole time? After reading Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4, I had to go back and make sure this wasn't a retcon.

Okay, so after my initial shock reading Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4, I had to sit down and really process everything. Like, seriously, Koji Kashin being back and interacting with Boruto Uzumaki in that intense manga panel? My jaw was on the floor! It wasn't just a fleeting appearance; the implications are huge. For those who might have forgotten, or are just catching up, this chapter really dropped a bombshell. So, what exactly went down? Chapter 4 picks up with Boruto on the run, trying to gather intel and power up. We see his continued struggle with the Otsutsuki threat and his determination to protect Sarada and the rest of his loved ones. The tension is palpable as he's clearly isolated, carrying the burden of Eida's omnipotence. But then, boom – we get that stunning reveal. Boruto isn't alone. He's found an unlikely ally, or at least a powerful confidant, in Koji Kashin. Their conversation, though brief in the panel, feels incredibly weighty. Koji Kashin, for those who need a refresher, is a clone of Jiraiya, created by Amado to fight Jigen/Isshiki. His last major appearance left his fate somewhat ambiguous after his battle with Isshiki. Most of us, myself included, probably assumed he was either dead or permanently out of commission. His return here, especially looking as grizzled and mysterious as ever, presents so many questions. Is he still loyal to Amado's original goals? What has he been doing all this time? And why is he now seemingly aiding Boruto? The visual of him sitting with Boruto Uzumaki, almost like a mentor or protector in that black and white manga panel, is just iconic and immediately made me think of Jiraiya's relationship with Naruto. This alliance changes everything for Boruto. He's been largely a lone wolf, developing his abilities. Now, with Koji's experience and unique skillset (hello, Sage Mode!), Boruto has a formidable, albeit enigmatic, companion. This partnership could be crucial for deciphering the mysteries of the Otsutsuki and figuring out how to undo Eida's omnipotence. It also opens up possibilities for Boruto to learn more about his own heritage and perhaps even some forgotten techniques. I'm personally hoping Koji can offer some much-needed tactical advice, given his history. It feels like Boruto now has a true sounding board, someone who understands the stakes without being under Eida's spell. And yes, to address my initial thought in the main post: was it a retcon? On first read, it certainly felt like it because his survival was so uncertain. But thinking about it, Kishimoto often leaves these threads dangling. Koji's survival could have been planned all along, lying in wait for the perfect moment. It makes sense that someone with his abilities and purpose would be tough to permanently put down. It's less of a retcon and more of a huge, well-timed surprise that adds another layer of complexity to the 'Two Blue Vortex' narrative. I'm just so excited to see where this goes!
