Have you ever been scared to ask your FA questions?😥
Most clients will ask me:
“𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐮𝐦?”
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧?”
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫?”
All these are important.
But there are a few questions clients rarely ask, and honestly, they should😲
“𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞?”
Not just what the product does.
Why does it suit your situation?
Why this amount?
Why this duration?
Why now?
The adviser should be able to explain it in a simple way💪🏻
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞?”
Sometimes there is more than one way to solve the same problem.
A cheaper option💸
A simpler option.
A shorter commitment.
Or maybe you already have something that can cover part of the need.
It is okay to ask what else was considered.
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠?”
This is a very important question.
Life can change.
Job situation can change.
Family expenses can increase.
Before signing, ask what happens if you stop in year two, five or ten.
Don’t only look at the best-case scenario.
“𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐝?”
Projected numbers can look very nice.
But projected doesn’t mean confirmed.
Ask clearly what is guaranteed and what depends on the market or other factors.
You don’t need to understand every technical detail.
But you should at least know which number can change.
“𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐝?”
Some people feel awkward asking this.
But I think it is a fair question🙀
You are not insulting the adviser.
You are simply trying to understand the full arrangement.
A good adviser should be able to answer without becoming defensive.
And one more question:
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐈 𝐛𝐮𝐲?”
“Will there be regular reviews?”
“Who will help with claims?”
“What happens if your life situation changes?”
The relationship shouldn’t end once the application is approved.
My honest advice?
𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.
You are not being difficult.
You are making a financial commitment, sometimes for many years.
Take your time.
Ask again if you don’t understand.
And don’t sign just because you feel paiseh.
𝐀 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫.💪🏻

When it comes to engaging with a financial adviser, many clients focus mainly on the surface details like premium costs and expected returns. However, through my experience, I've learned that asking deeper, more specific questions can considerably improve your understanding and satisfaction with your financial plan. For instance, understanding why a particular product is recommended for your unique situation is crucial. Different products may address similar needs differently depending on your financial goals, risk tolerance, and lifestyle. Always request a clear explanation about why the adviser believes a product fits your circumstances—not just its features but the rationale behind amounts, duration, and timing. Exploring alternative options is equally important. Sometimes, advisers present a single solution when there might be cheaper or simpler alternatives, or existing coverage that can be integrated. Don't hesitate to ask about other possible choices and comparisons—this transparency can save you money and provide more comfort with your decision. Life is unpredictable, so inquire about what happens if your financial situation changes and you can't keep up with payments. Understanding cancellation policies, penalties, or grace periods can prevent unpleasant surprises. Another area often overlooked is which parts of your investment or insurance are guaranteed versus projected or market-dependent. Knowing this helps set realistic expectations and risk awareness. Ask your adviser candidly about how they are compensated. This helps you gauge any potential biases in their recommendations and ensures your interests align. Finally, clarify what support you'll receive after purchase. Regular reviews, claim assistance, and advice adjustments with changing circumstances are vital aspects of a trustworthy adviser-client relationship. From personal experience, clients who engage openly and confidently in these conversations tend to build stronger, more beneficial financial plans. Remember, you aren’t being difficult; you're protecting your future. A good adviser welcomes your questions and takes pride in helping you understand every detail.
