This is insane. The current Republican speaker has NEVER delivered a federal budget on time or in budget. It seems the only time they are the fiscal conservatives they claim to be is when they are in the minority.
We need to shift the burden back towards the people who are demonstratively making the most of the American economy, that being the millionaires and billionaires. Businesses must pat their fair share, let’s close legal tax loopholes. Congress obviously cannot bring their spending under control so we need a legal framework they cannot ignore or escape, that being a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget delivered by September 30 or the House speaker and Senate Majority leader must be replaced.
The growing national debt, projected to reach $40 trillion by 2026, is an alarming challenge that affects every American’s financial future. The burden of this debt is further compounded by the over one trillion dollars spent annually just on interest payments, which diverts vital funds from essential services and investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. From my perspective, one of the core issues enabling this escalating debt is the persistent inability of Congressional leaders to stick to fiscal discipline. It’s frustrating to witness that promises of fiscal conservatism often fade when a party assumes power, and budgets frequently miss both deadlines and targets. This chronic pattern highlights a systemic failure in current budgetary governance. Based on this experience, one powerful solution could lie in establishing a constitutional amendment mandating a balanced federal budget. By legally requiring that the budget be delivered on time each fiscal year—specifically by September 30—and linking consequences to noncompliance, such as replacing the House Speaker and Senate Majority Leader, accountability would be enforced at the highest levels. Additionally, shifting tax responsibilities back to those most benefiting from the American economy—millionaires, billionaires, and large businesses—is critical. Closing legal tax loopholes would ensure that everyone pays their fair share, which could significantly enhance revenue without raising taxes on middle- and lower-income families. This approach promotes fairness and economic sustainability, helping to reduce the deficit more equitably. In daily conversations, I often hear concerns from friends and family about how this debt may compromise their children’s and grandchildren’s quality of life. It’s a real fear that government overspending now could limit opportunities in the future. That’s why transparent, enforceable fiscal policies and responsible leadership are essential to preserve the nation’s economic health and secure a better future for generations to come.
