Loc style inspo:
( on medium length, thick locs )
I’m free-spirited when it comes to my locs. I like simple styles and wear my hair down or in a claw clip most of the time.
This style was easy to achieve, easy to take down nightly, and lasted until my next shampoo (2 weeks). As usual, not a laid edge in sight, and as usual I didn’t care.
I loved the curls! I styled the curls a few different ways after this mohawk style. I’ll do more loc curls in the future.
I’m posting a video reel soon on my instagram, be sure to follow me there, same username 🥰
It's so fun discovering new ways to style my locs, especially when they're as easy and long-lasting as this curly mohawk updo! As someone with medium length, thick locs, I'm always on the hunt for simple loc styles for women that look amazing without a ton of effort. This one totally delivered, feeling perfectly free-spirited for a special occasion like a birthday. Creating Your Own Curly Mohawk Loc Updo: Achieving this look is simpler than you might think! For my medium thick locs, I started by sectioning my hair. The key to that 'mohawk' shape is gathering the locs along the center of your head. I secured them into a high ponytail or bun, leaving out some locs on the sides. Then, I carefully curled the loose ends and the locs in the 'mohawk' section. The beauty of curly locs is that they hold styles so well! You can use pipe cleaners, perm rods, or even small braids to create those beautiful curls. I personally love the look of braided sides leading up to the main mohawk, it adds such an elegant touch for a female loc hairstyle. This technique is fantastic for creating those sought-after updo loc styles for medium hair, giving you height and volume. Making Your Loc Style Last: One of the best things about this curly mohawk loc updo was how long it lasted – a full two weeks! To help your easy loc updos last, be sure to protect them at night. A satin bonnet or scarf is a lifesaver for preserving your curls and preventing frizz. I also find that using a light setting spray after styling helps lock everything in without making my locs stiff. For those with thick locs, a good foundation is key, so make sure your locs are healthy and moisturized before styling. More Fun with Curly Locs & Updos: If you're like me and love the versatility of curly loc styles, don't stop at just one! I'm already planning more loc curls in the future. You can adapt this mohawk concept for various lengths, even neck length short loc updo styles can have a similar effect by gathering less hair or using pins creatively. For a truly cute loc style, consider adding some decorative pins or fresh flowers, especially if you're aiming for a bridal loc style or another celebratory look. And for my fellow free spirits who don't always worry about laid edges, embrace it! Your natural look is beautiful. If you do want a sleeker finish for certain occasions, a little edge control can work wonders. This style can even complement locs with tapered sides for a bolder statement. Experimenting with different curly dreadlocks hairstyles is part of the loc journey, and I’m excited to share more!
