The wealthy shepherd understands wolves and dogs discussing mischief, leading him to save the old dog. Later, he overhears his horse and mare discussing their burdens, causing him to laugh, which his wife questions.
The husband prepares to die for revealing why he laughed, as his wife insists. An old dog whines, and a cock mocks the husband for being unable to manage his one wife, contrasting it with his own hundred.
The husband, inspired by the cock's words, beats his wife with a stick. This action silences her inquiries about why he laughed, concluding the story.
