... Read moreI remember a time when I found myself panicking after a simple social interaction that felt awkward at the moment. Even though the other person had moved on quickly and hadn't thought about it since, I kept replaying the scene in my mind over and over. This kind of overthinking only made me feel more anxious and tense. From my experience, one of the most helpful ways to overcome this is by reminding yourself that most people are focused on themselves rather than holding on to every little detail of a conversation or interaction. Even if you feel panicked, acknowledging that the other party probably hasn’t dwelled on the moment at all can help reduce anxiety. Additionally, practicing mindfulness and grounding techniques can drastically improve how you handle these feelings in real-time. For example, deep breathing exercises or focusing on your five senses can bring you back to the present and interrupt the spiral of overthinking. Another tip is to prepare some general questions or topics ahead of social events to boost your confidence and reduce the chances of feeling awkward. Accepting that awkward moments are a natural part of human interaction and don't define your worth is crucial. Over time, with patience and practice, these moments will become less panic-inducing and more like minor blips you can laugh off. Sharing your experiences with friends or a supportive community can also help normalize these feelings and provide reassurance. Ultimately, the key is to show kindness to yourself and recognize that everyone experiences moments of anxiety or awkwardness—the difference lies in how we respond and grow from them.
