Trying to Be the Best Mother While Becoming a Doct

Motherhood and ambition are often treated like they can’t exist together especially for women.

There were nights I studied after bedtime routines. Mornings I went to work running on little sleep. Moments I questioned if I was asking too much of myself.

As a psychologist and a mother, I’ve learned that guilt follows women who care deeply about their families and their futures. I am not choosing between being a good mother and being a successful woman. I am showing my sons what resilience, commitment, and purpose look like.

They won’t remember perfection.

They will remember presence, love, and example.

If you’re building a life while raising children, you are not selfish , you are courageous.

Save this if you’ve ever doubted yourself.

From my conversations with fellow working moms, what stands out most is the dual burden of striving for professional excellence while being emotionally available to their children. One poignant reality behind the scenes is the constant feeling of guilt—whether it's the guilt of working late hours and missing bedtime stories, or the self-doubt that arises when you wonder if you are giving enough to your kids or career. This emotional weight can be overwhelming, but as a psychologist and mother, I’ve observed that these feelings are often a sign of deep care and commitment. Children don’t demand perfection; they cherish moments of attention and see more value in consistent effort than flawless execution. When I hear stories of mothers studying with a baby in their arms or fighting exhaustion after long shifts, it reminds me that perseverance is a powerful lesson for the next generation. Building a future while nurturing tiny humans demands not just time, but resilience and compassion toward oneself. It’s crucial for mothers in this situation to seek support, whether through family, friends, or professional communities online, such as #WorkingMomLife and #MotherhoodJourney forums. These spaces validate the experience and provide encouragement. Ultimately, recognizing that being a good mother and a driven professional aren’t mutually exclusive helps heal the internal conflict many women experience. If you’re in this experience, remember that you are not alone—your courage is inspiring, and your journey shows your children the true meaning of dedication and love even amid challenges.
