TW: Fire Cleanup
In early 2022, my familial home burned down while my cousin was living there. She was in the home when the fire started but thankfully made it out safely 🙌🏻
In early 2024, I inherited the property the home sits on. We began clean up almost immediately. My dad owns his own (recently started) construction business so I’ve had a lot of amazing help 🫶🏼
We’ve got a tiny bit more to do in terms of cleaning up and hauling off, next we plan to level the land and build a new home in the footprint of the old home. Follow along to see our progress! 🏡

Cleaning up after a fire can be an emotionally and physically taxing process, but it also presents an opportunity for renewal and rebuilding. The path to recovery begins with assessing the damage; this involves safely removing debris and hazardous materials. Collaborating with experienced professionals is crucial, especially if you’re not familiar with construction cleanup, to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. After the initial cleanup, evaluating the land’s condition is essential. This stage often includes leveling the land and preparing it for new foundations. It's important to consult with construction experts to ensure the renovation aligns with building codes and local regulations. Each step taken not only prepares for a new structure but also symbolizes hope and recovery. Involvement of family members and community can ease the transition, providing emotional support during this tough time. Sharing the story and the progress on social platforms, like Lemon8, can help in building connections with others who have experienced similar situations, fostering a sense of community. Your journey through grief can resonate with many, potentially inspiring others to share their own recovery stories. As you move forward with your plans, remember to embrace vulnerability and openness—these are key to healing.
