Feeding a Picky Eater 🥰
I’m no parenting expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But this is how I’ve gotten my god daughter, an extremely picky eater with limited safe foods, to become comfortable trying new things!
-Let them hear you talk about the new food and get comfortable with the idea of it before it’s ever introduced.
- When preparing the new food, involve them however you can. Let them get hands on.
-Safe foods on their plate, new foods on your plate.
- Let them see you enjoying the new food, exclaiming with genuine enthusiasm what you like about it.
- Say something along the lines of “This is really good, I’d love to share with you! I think you would like it.”
- Don’t push or shame. If they’re not interested in trying it, that’s okay. You can try again another time.
I hope these tips help you conquer the challenge of feeding a picky eater! 🫶🏼

Feeding a picky eater can be a challenging task for many parents and caregivers. It's important to remember that this phase is common among children, and patience is key. One effective strategy is to introduce variety gradually. Start by mixing new foods with familiar favorites on their plates, which helps reduce anxiety about the unfamiliar. Another technique is to create a positive mealtime atmosphere: make it a family affair by sharing meals together which promotes healthy eating habits through social interaction. Utilizing color and fun shapes for food can also intrigue their curiosity and encourage them to try different items. Understanding the psychology of a picky eater is crucial; often, it stems from an aversion to unfamiliar tastes and textures. Therefore, continuous exposure without pressure can help desensitize them to new foods. Engage children with fun facts about the benefits of various foods, explaining how they can gain strength and energy from eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, involving them in food selection and preparation can boost their interest and willingness to try what they helped create. Lastly, consider modeling good eating behavior yourself. Children are influenced by their parents' actions, so showing enthusiasm for diverse foods can inspire them to do the same. Overall, consistent encouragement, creativity, and patience will go a long way in nurturing a more adventurous eater!
