Changing College Majors?!

Alright, give it to me honest. How many times did you change majors? 🙈

With my most recent adjustment, this is my fourth change in career path. My first attempt at college was right after high school, I was a political science major and decided I didn’t have the charisma for it. Second time, I tried out psychology and didn’t think I was passionate enough about it. Third time I tried marketing, I find it fascinating but realistically I am just not good with numbers and analysis. Now I’m going for education! 📚

My goal is to become an English teacher and get certified in special education 🥰 I think I’d like to teach middle school, but not totally sure yet!

So, what about you? How long did it take you to figure out what you want to do with your life? Did you change majors, transfer universities, move states?

... Read moreChanging majors is a common experience for many college students. Research shows that a majority of students switch their majors at least once during their college career as they learn more about their interests and skills. Each major brings its own set of challenges and learning opportunities. For some, deciding on a pathway can take years, while others may find their passion quickly. This decision is crucial, as it influences not only academic life but future career paths as well. It’s important to consider what genuinely excites you, rather than what seems most practical or expected. Consulting with academic advisors, participating in workshops, and exploring internships related to different fields can help students make informed decisions. Furthermore, engaging with peers who have had similar experiences can provide valuable insights and encouragement. Envisioning future job roles and industries can help clarify interests and aspirations. When considering a major shift, it's vital to allow yourself the grace to explore, make mistakes, and redefine your goals. This journey of self-discovery is part of the college experience. Remember that each step, even the switch from one major to another, contributes to your personal and professional development. Look out for resources on changing majors and connect with supportive communities in college to ease your transition.
