Part 1: GoldenEye 007
Hey everyone! I just finished a nostalgic playthrough of GoldenEye 007, and I wanted to share my ultimate walkthrough for the very first mission: the Dam. This level can be trickier than it looks, especially if you're aiming for a perfect run or just trying to avoid those frustrating 'OBJECTIVE A: FAILED' screens. After several attempts, I've picked up some solid strategies that I think will really help you out. Part 1: The Exterior Approach – Stealth is Key! As soon as you start, you're out in the open. My first tip: stealth is your friend here! Equip your silenced PP7. There are guards patrolling the main bridge and a notorious sniper in the tower across the dam. Take out the local guards quietly. You'll definitely want to dispatch the sniper early – a well-aimed shot from your PP7 or even a quick burst from an assault rifle if you're not going for a stealth bonus will save you a lot of headaches later. Don't forget to look around; you'll often find opportunities to 'PICKED UP SOME AMMO' from fallen enemies or hidden crates; every bullet counts in GoldenEye. Part 2: Infiltrating the Facility & Key Objectives Once past the main dam structures, you'll find a series of guard houses and eventually the entrance to the facility. This is where the real mission begins. Your primary objectives involve disrupting communications and ensuring critical systems are operational. I remember the satisfaction when the message 'Dish controls destroyed!' popped up after I navigated the complex, found the control room, and planted the charge. It’s crucial to be methodical here, checking every corner for enemies and security cameras. Further inside, you'll need to activate the 'Emergency power systems engaged' to ensure everything's running smoothly before you make your exit. I learned the hard way that missing one of these can lead to a quick mission failure, so double-check your objectives! Part 3: Dealing with Opposition & Avoiding Pitfalls You'll encounter various types of guards, some with shotguns, others with automatic weapons. Knowing when to engage and when to sneak past is key. There's a memorable moment in the game where Bond often muses, “It was too easy, Alec.” and Trevelyan replies, “Half of everything is luck.” Bond then asks, “...and the other half?” This always reminds me not to get complacent, even when things seem to be going smoothly. Luck plays a part, but preparation and skill make the real difference. Make sure you’re always reloading when safe and picking up body armor if you find it. I found that sticking to cover and using peek-and-shoot tactics helped me immensely, especially when facing multiple enemies. Don't rush into rooms blindly! The Dam mission sets the tone for GoldenEye 007, blending action with stealth. By following these steps – being patient, prioritizing objectives like 'Dish controls destroyed!' and 'Emergency power systems engaged', and constantly managing your ammo – you'll find yourself mastering Level 1 in no time. It’s a classic for a reason, and I hope my experience helps you enjoy it even more.
